2. Overview

PriceShield is a Chrome browser extension for price history analysis and fake discount detection on online shops. We take data protection seriously. This privacy policy explains what data the extension and this website process.

3. Data Processing by the Extension

3.1 Locally Stored Data

The extension stores the following data exclusively locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local):

  • Product IDs (e.g. Amazon ASIN, article numbers)
  • Product prices with dates
  • Product titles
  • Extension settings (enabled shops, on/off status)
  • Usage statistics (number of tracked products, detected fake discounts)

This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to our or third-party servers. You can delete this data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser data.

3.2 Data Not Collected

PriceShield does not collect:

  • Personal data (name, email, address)
  • Login credentials or passwords
  • Browsing history or visited pages outside supported shops
  • Cookies or tracking IDs
  • IP addresses
  • Device or location data

3.3 External API Calls

When Keepa integration is enabled, the extension may contact the Keepa API (keepa.com) to retrieve price history data for Amazon products. Only the product ID (ASIN) is transmitted. No personal data is sent to Keepa. Please refer to Keepa's privacy policy.

3.4 Affiliate Links

When you navigate to an alternative shop through PriceShield, the link may contain an affiliate parameter. This serves exclusively to fund the extension and does not affect the price you pay. By clicking an affiliate link, the target shops may set cookies subject to their own privacy policies.

3.5 Permissions

The extension requires the following Chrome permissions:

  • storage: To store price data and settings locally in your browser
  • activeTab: To read price information from the currently open shop page
  • Host permissions for supported shops (amazon.de, otto.de, mediamarkt.de, saturn.de): To inject the content script that reads price information and displays the overlay

4. Data Processing by this Website

4.1 Hosting

This is a static website. When visiting, the following data is automatically logged by the web server (server log files): requested page, date and time, data volume, referrer URL, browser type, and IP address (typically deleted after 7 days). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure provision of the website).

4.2 Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses cookies that enable analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to and stored on a Google server in the USA. We have activated IP anonymization so that your IP address is truncated within the EU. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in analyzing website usage to improve our offering). For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics tracking by installing a browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

4.3 Contact

If you contact us by email, the data you provide (email address, name if applicable, message content) will be stored to process your inquiry. This data will not be shared without your consent. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

5. Your Rights under GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR): You may request information about your processed data.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You may request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You may request deletion of your data.
  • Right to restriction (Art. 18 GDPR): You may request restriction of processing.
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You may request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): You may object to the processing.
  • Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia.

6. Data Security

The extension stores all data exclusively in the local Chrome Storage API. This data is bound to your browser profile and only accessible on your device. No data is transmitted to external servers (except for the optional Keepa API, see 3.3). This website is served over HTTPS.

7. Changes

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy to adapt it to changed legal requirements or changes to the extension. The current version can always be found on this page.
